Wellsense USA's M.A.P. System (an acronym for Monitor, Alert and Protect) is designed as a tool to assist caregivers in preventing pressure ulcers. By positioning a "smart" M.A.P. coverlet with builtin pressure sensors over a patient or resident sleep surface, the system identifies areas of pressure and produces a color-coded, live image on an easy-to-read bedside monitor. The system also monitors the buildup of pressure over time at preset intervals and alerts the caregiver when a periodic repositioning is due.

The foam mattress, paired with the convoluted top layer, reduces pressure, and its nylon cover is a durable, zippered and waterproof anti-microbial material that meets California Flame Retardant Standards. The five zones consist of real horizontal cross-cut foam whose sections individually redistribute pressure. The checkerboard foam surface conforms to body contours and allows air flow channels to keep patients cool. The center section under the foam uses eight individual bladders to prevent migration of gel. When high pressure is exerted, the gel does not move from under the patient.
