H.R. 3790 Gaining Momentum

Bill calling to end competitive bidding attracts more co-sponsors.

So far, H.R. 3790 now has 162 co-sponsors, after concentrated effort from providers during this week’s American Association for Homecare’s Legislative Conference, as well as the industry’s “Save our Jobs — Protect our Patients” campaign organized by the National Association of Independent Medical Equipment Suppliers during the recent congressional recess for President’s Day.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Kendrick Meek (D.-Fla.), calls for the repeal of CMS’s national competitive bidding program, and has 163 backers, including Meek. According to a statement from the Accredited Medical Equipment Providers of America, new co-sponsors include Sam Graves (R-Mo.), who is the Ranking Member and co-chair of the Small Business Committee, as well as supporters from Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan and Virginia.

“The last 55 will be the hardest to achieve because these legislators are aware that their votes may be the ones that push this bill through,” a statement from AMEPA read.
